If you’re wondering which of Portland, Oregon’s famed outdoor locations is the best for taking that selfie or having a romantic photo shoot, the result is now in.
In a recent survey of Instagram users, Jamison Square in Portland Oregon was voted the number one location for urban outdoor photography by an overwhelming majority. Voters cited ease of access, ample parking, no cost, and a unique mix of Portland style as the top reasons.
“Portland has a lot of great urban sites,” says Erik Westerhalle of Brian Erik Jamison Photography, “but Jamison Square is an iconic location for a wedding shoot. Within 50 yards there are a dozen spectacular urban spots.”
Mr. Westerhalle also noted that urban photography was on the upswing in the Portland area. “It’s the hot new trend, doing your wedding and shower photos in an urban setting. People are looking for a setting that reflects their appreciation and connection to the city they live in.”
The locale also received high marks from local social network stars. “It’s my secret spot for selfies!” according to Auburn Lane, a 21 year old Instagrammer with thousands of followers, “Rain or shine, I can always find an amazing place to snap!”
A distant second place for urban photography in the Portland area was Pittock Mansion, followed by the Rose Garden and Japanese Gardens in a near tie. Portland’s Chinese Gardens dropped off the top ten list for the first time this year, possibly due to the cost to enter and small size of the venue.
